It’s Not Eris’ Fault ~ 16 April 2008

One of my favorite comedians/commentators railed against astrology last week on his show. I’ve got two of them: Keith Olbermann and Bill Maher and neither of them seemingly would give a plugged Mercury dime for a consultation. Said Maher in his new rule segment “New Rules,” under the heading “Age of Obsequious” no one like the cosmic sucking up that fills most popular horoscopes. He said that he already knows that he’s artistic, creative, sensitive and astonishing in the sack and of course, humble. Our job, Maher contends is to tell him something he doesn’t know. He might be onto something, but it’s hard to know in the Age of Eris. More, what new is there under the Sun? Dwarf planets?

Now, I’ve been pondering Eris a heap of late and filing the comments submitted by Aries (Ares, the constant companion to Eris) readers. There’s one quote I’m waiting to secure the rights to use. Another Aries upon receiving personalized license plates with Aries in the personalized name chose to drive wrong way round in a parking lot to appease Eris. Yes! Let’s include her with appeasement. With that thought in mind, let’s rethink this Eris thing a bit. She did not cause the Trojan War despite many efforts to link her directly in ways that sound similar to placing Al Qaeda’s stronghold being in Iraq prior to 9/11. Eris rolled an apple with the phrase “for the fairest” on it to the feet of the goddesses attending a wedding from which she had been excluded. It was the vanity ego competition following that even Jupiter had the sense to avoid arbitrating that caused the Trojan War. Should we want to blame the Trojan war more appropriately, how about Aphrodite? She, with her connections, awarded Paris, the arbitrator of the apple contest, a married woman to be his bride. That’s where the international relations went south. Eris served to point out the vulnerability of the goddesses of the age to one of the deadly sins. Eris aspires to point out human vulnerabilities that may compromise a healthy lifestyle. Hmm. That’s nice and tidy.

Especially tidy since Venus now moves to finish out the parade of personal lights planets to Eris. It started with the Moon, followed by the Sun, which in this country turned the Presidential campaigning personal and into a blatant popularity contest - not such a big surprise and was followed by a staggering revelation of illegal international political activity during Mercury to Eris. While individuals watched the powers that be interact with Eris in less than ideal terms, personal lives followed suit but all in the spirit of Eris wanting to make the quality of life better. Venus hopefully tidily polishes up these personal transits without the need to start economic or relationship wars.

As Venus aligns with Eris virtually every person alive on this planet who wants something they do not yet have, lusts for whatever... money, power, cosmetic surgery... falls subject to two things: an unfulfilled desire, and the original motivation behind the desire and its impact on consciousness. Therein lies the crux of the matter. When needs, desires and the urge to satisfy issues of status, success, vanity and ego rise to unhealthy proportions, blow the whistle and take a time out. Take a moment to assess the validity of the background motivation. If you’re feeling excluded when you get outbid on some E-Bay item that you covet, do you go nuts and offer $300 for a 10-cent piece of paper? Is it a matter of look what I have or I need what really feeds my soul? That was rhetorical; no feedback required.

The essence of the next days deals with finding a way to communicate all needs, desires and spiritual commodities that must be sought, granted and received from external sources. Can you articulate needs to a mate without creating discord? Can you ask for and accept a raise without irritating those who occupy corner offices with a view? Do your desires and wants reflect the urge to create a life worth living or simply one of maintaining status and the appearance of success?

Back in the more mundane and acceptable realm of the planets, Mars in Cancer approaches an opposition to Jupiter in Capricorn. Sure it’s a tug of war wrapped around preserving domestic tranquility and inner space versus outer one’s outer place in the world and professional demands. How does one balance home vs. work, family interactions versus professional relationships? What a time to find out! Since this pattern addresses the energy weave of the unusual black hole system SS433, consider this week to be a high output week. Rally and match the demands of progress. This is the week to burn high-octane with open-ended effort. Next week you can cool off a bit and place the throttle closer to (but not in) the idle position. Given the other black hole in the neighborhood that also addresses resource consciousness, make the effort to prioritize all mundane matters clearly. If you make it important, you’ll find a way.

Of course, that goes back to Venus and Eris. Find ways to get what you need that do not upset apple carts or create unnecessary discord or rouse the ugly head of envy for your co-participants in life.

As for Bill Maher’s contention that we fluff egos with astrology, how about we translate our words into the vocabulary of those who do not speak our language as to include outsiders and not shun them in a negative, excluding Erisian manner? His comments made me go back and reread my scopes on MommyTalk.com to see how I was dealing with information and insight. Then I e-mailed him my latest scopes.

Just as a look ahead, I’ve decided we might be a little off track with Pluto as those of you confirming transits by this planet to be a train wreck suggest. Soon, I’ll be producing a three DVD set of presentations about Pluto and the other dwarf planets, heavily focusing upon the unconscious and physical influence Pluto held over America prior to his discovery. There. I put it out there. Now I have to prioritize this matter and get ducks in a row to get it done in accord with the patterns above.
