Flash! ~ February 23, 2005

Did you feel it? A blast of galactic energy reflected off our Moon and showered us with gamma rays on December 27, last year. It would have been hard to tell if you felt it or not had you been watching news coverage of the greatest natural loss of human life in our lifetime. This is the brightest flash ever recorded of a non-solar system origin. My incoming e-mail box lit up as well.

Let’s cover some basics. The source of this event was SGR 1806-20. The prefix does not mean Sagittarius; it stands for Soft Gamma Ray Repeater. This magnetic star source, a magnetar, essentially suffered a star quake some forty to fifty thousand years ago. The resulting shock and energy release hit us in December. The location of this SGR is 0 Capricorn 33.

There are but a handful of the SGR’s known. Normally a gamma ray event in space is a one time shot. However, besides this one, there is one known to be in Aries, two in Sagittarius and two more in Capricorn. There may be more. They are looking, but you have to wait for a starquake to toss out energy to record anything. Why so many in Sag and Cap? Good question. The greatest presence of cosmic “stuff” as we look out into space appears in Sagittarius and Capricorn. The odds are greater more of anything will be that direction. The reason being, as we look into space toward the center of our galaxy, a highly monitored region, we look through one of the spiral arms of the galaxy, offering the greatest density of stuff.

SGR’s reformed a good bit of astrophysical thinking about the effects of galactic phenomena on Earth. Prior to 1997, it was largely believed that nothing outside the solar system affected us. Then, the first known SGR appeared. On August 28, 1998, SGR 1900+14 (19 Capricorn 38) gave us an inoculation of cosmic proportions. This blast wiped out satellites and cell phones, particularly in the northwestern region of the United States and western Canada. Remember? Those you with sensitive auras do.

Those of us following the galactic dimensions of astrology have known for decades what astronomers recently concluded. There’s a lot out there that we don’t know and all of it affects us in one way or another. So what do SGR’s mean? Gamma radiation, according to my work, induces personal transmutation. Here, I must define my terms so this makes more sense. I refer to evolutionary processes that occur by a person’s own hand and internally, as transformational. Evolutionary cycles that occur internally and are stimulated by outside forces are transmutational. Gamma radiation aligns inner growth with profound external events. The Indonesian earthquake of 26 December and tsunami shocked the world. What did it mean to you? Life can be whisked away while you’re lying on the beach. Does that change or refine the view held of life, mortality and spiritual awareness? Let us hope.

I returned home on the 27th of December, flying right through this dang wave, I reckon. Being a bit worn, I went to Starbucks for my fix. There, a woman raged about the inconvenience of having to walk into Starbucks since the drive through was closed. I asked if she had tried to get a cup of coffee in Sri Lanka or Sattahip, Thailand recently. Truly, a review of what is important and what is not, came to us in a flash. Hopefully, the flash was not so blinding as to lose our ability to function clearly in life. There will be more of these. We just do not know when and where. But the Universe, from every nook and cranny, affects us all.
