Magic Milestones ~ 15 August 2007

This year many players besides Barry Bonds achieved noteworthy career milestones. Following are several of those charts and mini-astrological assessments, all intending to provide astrologers indicators of when things go right in a person's life... very right.

First up, Frank Thomas, "the Big Hurt." Five hundred times pitchers have been hurt by Thomas' ability to smash a long ball. On June 28, he reached the extraordinary plateau of half a thousand home runs. Since Mars represents the impact of bat on ball - or ball on bat - we first look to see what aspects natal Mars. Wouldn't you know? Jupiter in Sag stands but one degree from exactly opposite Thomas' natal Mars. Since Jupiter rules long distance travel and since we've seen how far the Big Hurt can hit a baseball, that is indeed a signature of a long distance trip. In the last week's of the season, Jupiter returns to oppose Mars, potentially offering another reward. While the Blue Jays are not likely to make the post season, Thomas stands to draw attention from other American League teams in the off season.

Thomas' natal chart was further supported by Pluto in a long term transit to natal Jupiter in Leo. Late in his career, Thomas experiences a surge of good fortune due to his ability to endure and perpetually resurrect his career. Certainly this transit supported the burying of the hatchet with the Chicago White Sox, healing that unfriendly departure. It seems certain his jersey will find a place in the White Sox Hall of Fame.

Now as Saturn passes natal Jupiter moving to a trine to Pluto, Thomas climbs up the all time home run hitter list, now occupying position twenty.

Finally, all year and next Pluto opposes Thomas's Mercury. Is there a book deal pending? Might he write a tell-all expose much like Jim Bouton and Jose Canseco? We'll have to see on that one, but regardless he's going to find a way to share some of those great baseball stories he has to tell.

Biggio gets 3,000 hits...

Without a doubt, Houston Astro's Craig Biggio has the filthiest batting helmet in baseball. Like Eric Byrnes, he doesn't look right until his uniform bears at least ten percent of the dirt in the ball park in which he plays. How does a Virgo Moon stand it?!? Otherwise, the clean-cut Biggio has performed two remarkable feats for modern day baseball. One, his entire career has been played for only one baseball club, just like they used to do it in the old days. Two, on June 28th, the same day Thomas reached his milestone, Biggio struck his 3,000th career hit, joining his own elite club. Unfortunately, Biggo attempted to stretch a single into a double - like any good Sag would do to go just a bit further - and was thrown out at second base.

Without an accurate birth time, it's impossible to know if Jupiter squared Biggio's Virgo Moon, or if it made contact with his angles. However, Jupiter was aligned with the midpoint of his hand-eye coordination Mercury and his Sun. The transiting Moon, certainly in Sagittarius approached his Sun during the game, showering emotional favor and support his way. Even if Biggio creamed your favorite team during his play against them, he's one of those guys you end up cheering to succeed.

Biggio's likely to retire after this, but since Saturn moves into Virgo and takes on his Moon late this season and continuing through the off season, the home team might beg him to stay on and coach. Also between this season and next, Jupiter and Pluto oppose his natal Jupiter. Sounds like an offer than can't be refused. You know, there are many clubs out there looking for a good manager or a solid bench/hitting coach.

As other interesting notes, Saturn will square Biggio's nodes and Mercury late in September. That makes a fan wonder what fateful rendering comes his way. It looks too late for the Astros to have a late season wild card surge left in them. So some other karmic reward seems likely. Since the nodes had recently passed Biggio's Saturn as he surged for the 3,000th hit, his fate in the Hall of Fame seems more than secure.

A-Rod hits his 500th dinger...

One of the baseball princes of New York, the handsome, ridiculously rich and exceptionally talented Alex Rodriguez continues to raise eyebrows - unfortunately, off the field as well. This Leo no doubt thanks his lucky stars he only has the Sun in Leo. Imagine the attention he'd draw otherwise. Still, his off the field escapades afford him more visibility than his Pisces Moon prefers. Maybe he should transform his batting helmet into Pluto's helmet of invisibility.

Recently, A-Rod became the youngest player to reach the five hundred home run plateau in baseball history. Bets suspect that if A-Rod stays healthy, he'll far surpass whatever final numbers Barry Bonds generates. My astrological bet is on that, too. But first more about now: Uranus may be to A-Rod's Moon, without an accurate time that remains an unknown. But given the publicity of this year, it seems likely. Again, Mars is the batting stroke. All season long a square from Neptune, given a generous orb, makes it seem that A-Rod could hit home runs blind-folded. As the record was set, Uranus sextiled natal Mars and it seems that Mars had to clear the fated South Node to allow the short term home run drought to end.

As for long ball Jupiter, it's transiting intuitive Neptune. With Jupiter stationing on his Neptune, it'll be interesting to see what highlight reels he makes, most like offensively and defensively and hopefully none socially that offend other sensibilities.

If A-Rod hit 40 home runs a year, he'd need seven seasons to reach 280 home runs, more than will be needed. That means he could pass Bonds' record with six more seasons following the the 2007 season. Personally, I hope he goes on a tear and gets it done before the Mayan Calendar expire. I do want to see this happen. At the end of the 2013 season, A-Rod enjoys transiting Uranus to his natal Jupiter. That could do it. At the same time Saturn trines natal Venus in Virgo. If he can stay out of the New York Post's gossip page, he'll be a favorite. Given that the year before or so, Pluto in Capricorn squares his natal Pluto and assuming his nose stayed out of trouble, he's destined for immortality.

Glavine enters the 300 win club...

Finally, he's not cold and aloof as the papers make him out to be. He's actually introverted and shy. Imagine being a famous icon and having to deal with a Pisces moon, too? While the name Tom Terrific originally belonged to Tom Seaver, fellow Tom Glavine now shares more than that nickname with his predecessor. Glavine, like Seaver, is an Aries Sun Sign and now a member of the esteemed 300 win club, just like Seaver. By speculation of some baseball prognosticators, Glavine may be the last 300 game winner in baseball history. I'm holding out for Randy Johnson to win 17 more games and also be there.

However, the modest Aries - must be the Pisces Mercury retrograde, which closed on natal Saturn at birth and also squared Jupiter in Gemini - secured ultra-legendary status last Sunday in Chicago as he earned his 300th victory. Even hard-nosed Cubs fans gave the likeable Glavine a standing “O.”

Like Biggio, even though Glavine beat the cream out of my favorite teams throughout the years, I couldn't help but like him. He knew pitching and the game of baseball (Mercury-Saturn square Jupiter). Jupiter in Gemini got him into the heads of batters and umpires. He'd through whatever he wanted and given his reputation for being so damn good he got calls most pitchers did not. At one point as part of the Holy Trinity in Atlanta (come on, they were godly good), Glavine, Maddux and Smoltz had a strike zone that by some accounts was two baseball plates wide.

Mars had just crossed his nodal axis, just as it had done for A-Rod, before the magical milestone could be achieved. Jupiter in Sagittarius trined both his Sun and Mars in Aries. And Uranus opposed natal Uranus. Normally known for being the apex of the mid-life crisis, Glavine achieved the stratosphere of major league pitching with his wife, children, former trainer and doctor, watching the game live.

Other transits such as Neptune to Venus and Jupiter coming to oppose his natal Jupiter make an astrological-baseball pundit speculate as to his future. He could easily pitch longer. He could retire and if so, like Biggio, likely will receive heaps of offers to coach or manage. But with Neptune to Venus, his wife and family, no doubt factor into his decision more than the average baseball guy. My guess would be he'll pitch until Saturn in Virgo comes to Pluto and Uranus... another season or so. Then, how about a year off and maybe agreeing to take on a managerial role with Saturn opposing Mercury at the end of the 2009 season?
