The New Player
This year I’ve been remiss in writing baseball blogs. It’s been one of those years. I’ve been waiting for Roger Clemens to quadruple his retirement announcements. I’ve been waiting for Barry Bonds to be indicted or at least cough up what’s up about steroids. I’ve been waiting for the Diamondbacks to roll off their backs and climb to the National League West Championship. And waiting, and waiting, and waiting.
It’s been pure hell rooting for this team this year. They start slow, have a good month, a terrible month, a great month, then a month where they’re not sure what they are. Actually it goes beyond hell. I got to thinking, what goes beyond hell? Recently astronomers discovered a new planet 2003 UB313, which likely will be named as Pluto’s wife - Pluto being lord of the underworld, evidently where hell is. So there is actually something beyond hell out there in space, is there? Yes. And she bears the implication of what comes after rising out of one’s own ashes, rather appropriate for a baseball team choosing Phoenix for its home.
Presently, and for the entire 2006 baseball season, 2003 UB313 contacts Mercury, Mars and Saturn in the horoscope for the first pitch in the first ever official National League game in which the Diamondbacks played (see chart). It’s like the team has had a new player all year long.
UB313 impacts the Diamondbacks’ natal Mercury by
transforming the tendency for mental errors. Keeping a player’s head in
the game, especially if pitching falters (and boy, has it) is a challenge beyond
the abilities of a manager. Players drift in and out and get caught in things
like scheduling a tonsillectomy for a child, whether they’ll be investigated
for steroids given that a former team member got ditched for being involved
in supplying the drugs, or wondering if it’ll still be hotter than hell
in Phoenix when the game is over. One of the D’Backs better fielders,
Orlando Hudson, with this body in Aries squaring his Capricorn Moon, dashed
the wrong way on a ground ball. He’s more than made up for it, but how
embarrassing to have had such a preoccupation and lapse, right there in front
of God and everybody - especially the god of the underworld.
The new planet’s influence with the team’s Mars, suggesting effort and action, can best be seen in combination with the team’s planet of drill and discipline, Saturn. Those players who apply strong work ethics and approach the game with unbridled enthusiasm become fires under the behinds of others that inspire extra effort when the chips are down. Newcomer Carlos Quentin experiences the new planet opposite his own highly disciplined Saturn to the highly motivated Pluto. This boy can hit, field and do everything. While still a little rough, he’s one of the best players and hitters I’ve seen come up in years. Similarly, fellow rookie Stephen Drew finds UB313 between his Mars - energy, instinct and spark and Venus, which can show the love of the game, worth ethics and an attitude of just happy to be here. Drew began play against the Dodgers - his older brother’s team. He started hitting right away. While not noted as a great fielder, his play at shortstop has been nothing short of spectacular. Both Drew and Quentin thrive on the juice of the big leagues. Happy to be here, these boys have their heads straight, focused and are doing what’s expected of them and more.
A contrast between pitchers shows some of the variance in initial reactions to the planet just entering our awareness. Tony Pena, another newcomer, has the planet square his Capricorn Sun and south node. He’s glad to be in the big leagues and is willing to be the Cap style rock in the bullpen if need be. So far, he’s been exceptional. Conversely, his colleague on the pitching staff, Greg Aquino, with a Venus/Sun conjunction in Capricorn squared by UB313, manifests the pattern differently. When Aquino joined the D’Backs two years ago, he was lights out. Last year, so-so. This year Aquino seems more interested in wearing his cap crooked to stay cool while the batters heat up his fastballs, hitting them to the Moon, the stars and beyond. Perhaps he should take notes from staff ace, Brandon Webb. Webb has UB313 directly between his natal Mars and Venus. That boy loves to pitch and pitch he does. He’s modest, from humble roots and knows how lucky he is to be where he is. His attention never lapses.
Of course
these are isolated examples of UB313 to players’
horoscopes while the team’s chart undergoes the transformation implied
by the new body. Still, a theme emerges. The orbital elements of UB313
appear in Libra (perihelion) and Taurus (node). From this, a love vs. money
theme results, as does a status/money vs. spirit/soul axis. The new planet strongly
suggests getting beyond mundane matters and steering life based upon the merits
of spirit and soul - after all, she is the reconciliation and result of the
powerful underworld regeneration factory. Here, those D’Backs playing
for the love of the game, the joy it can bring, the inspiration it offers and
the good of the soul, excel. Those committed to the big bucks, self importance
and standing ego attached, they... well, they suck. And according to UB313,
they’ll be part of the irrigation system for canal water as long as their
bearings fail to track the new planet’s higher aspirations or until the
D’Backs cut or trade them.
Some of the other baseball club horoscopes, given the start up of baseball in spring, likely have planets in Aries being impacted by UB313's current position of 21 Aries 16, retrograding (as of August 16th, updates on this body’s position can be found on the New Planet, Sedna and Centaurs link on my homepage). It might be fun to watch. A lot of teams remain in the hunt for championships. See who falters and who flies... and according to UB313, why.
